Asbestos register requirements in Queensland

If you manage or control a workplace in Queensland, you may be legally required to keep an asbestos register and a written management plan. Here's a plain-English summary of what's involved.

1

What an asbestos register is

The asbestos register is a single document that identifies all known or assumed asbestos-containing materials (ACMs) within a building or workplace. It records where asbestos is, what type, and its condition, so it can be managed safely.

2

When it's required

A register is required wherever asbestos is, or is likely to be, present in a workplace. In Queensland you generally won't need one only if the building was constructed after 31 December 1989 and no asbestos has been identified or is likely to be present. Failing to keep one where required is an offence under the Work Health and Safety Regulation.

3

The management plan

If asbestos is present, you also need a written management plan setting out how it will be monitored and controlled, who is responsible, and what to do in an incident. It must be readily accessible to workers and kept up to date.

4

How we help

We prepare WHS-compliant registers and management plans, and run the audits that keep them current — so your workplace stays compliant without you having to navigate the regulations alone.
